Today is a very special day to me. Today is the day that people all around the nation are writing love on their arms to raise awareness about suicide.
The day before Valentine’s Day is the day with the highest suicide rates because people think that since they have no one to spend Valentine’s Day with they are worth nothing. I write love on my arm to remind them that they are loved. No one is completely alone in this world and I think people sometimes forget that.
No matter what anyone is going through there is always someone there to hold their hand and make sure everything is ok. On this day, please remember that you are loved.
“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
Suicide is very close to my heart because I know many people who have been to the edge and have almost not been able to come back. That is why, also on this day I have written “Slow Down” on my wrist. This is the exact place where I write notes to myself to remember to do things and so it is appropriate to remind myself to slow down in the same place.
I have had times when I am so wrapped up in my own life, that I forget that other people may be going through a rough time. There have been times when a “friend” of mine was thinking about suicide, and I have no idea. Friend is in quotes because what kind of friend am I if I don’t notice that they are suffering? I’m not.
I must live my life for others and not for my own selfishness. This I struggle with everyday.
